MotherBoard Drivers

Replacing the drivers for your motherboard can be a real pain in the neck can't it? How many times has even the most seasoned computer user failed to save the motherboard drivers prior to wiping out a computer, only to find that you've lost it all, sound, networking and good monitor function.

If you're not particularly savvy so far as computers go, you may even have a bit of trouble figuring out what kind of motherboard is actually in your computer prior to getting those motherboard drivers to reinstall. Installation of the wrong drivers means that your computer essentially doesn't work. It's frustrating and irritating to say the very least.

If you are like most of us, and your computer was self built, or someone else built it for you, you're probably going to find it cumbersome at best to figure out what kind of motherboard you've got, but not finding the right drivers isn't an option.

If your motherboard is in a working computer, there are multiple ways to determine what kind of motherboard that you've got, if you don't already know.

Opening your case, of course, and visually inspecting the motherboard for telltale signs of what type motherboard you have is an option. In most cases you're going to find some type of manufacturer make and model on the motherboard itself. If you try this one first, you're looking for a model or part number that will usually be printed on a sticker and adhered to your motherboard. This makes finding the proper motherboard drivers a lot easier.

Failing this, and if possible, try booting up your computer. Normally the mainboard will be listed for you at the beginning of the boot sequence. Its a fast flash but you may get enough to go on.

Your other options will be to install and use third party software to help you to determine the kind of motherboard, and therefore the motherboard drivers that you need. Some of the software that will help you to determine your motherboard, chipset and some additional information about your motherboard and motherboard drivers include:

WinAudit

A freeware program, it will detect and generate a list of the hardware and software in your computer.

Belarc Advisor

Another freeware program for audit of the personal PC, Belarc will generate a report about all aspects of your PC including hardware as well as software.

Once you've found the motherboard type for your computer, you will then be able to do an internet search for your drivers. It's possible that you can download your motherboard drivers from the manufacturers site in many cases simply by searching your make and model of motherboard on that site.

In many cases, even if you're not able to find the motherboard drivers that you require on the manufacturers site, you will be able to download them from one of the many motherboard or motherboard drivers site that exist t on the internet. Many of these will charge a small fee for your membership, however the ability to download unlimited motherboard drivers and other varieties of drivers is well worth what the charges may be.
